LANDSCAPING IN EAST HAMPTON, NY
In East Hampton, the Approval Is Half the Project
East Hampton Village runs one of the most demanding design reviews on the East End, and the Town is not far behind on tree protection. Removing or even root-pruning a mature specimen can require permission, and the penalty for guessing is not a warning letter.
Around Hook Pond and Georgica, wetland setbacks govern where you can regrade and where drainage is allowed to discharge. On the Further Lane and Lily Pond corridors the soil is deep and workable, but the finish standard is unforgiving — a joint line that would pass anywhere else gets noticed here.
The properties that go smoothly are the ones where the paperwork started first.
WHAT WE DO HERE
Every Service We Offer, Available in East Hampton
One company for the whole property. That matters more than it sounds — when the same crew sets the grade, builds the hardscape and plants into it, there is nobody to blame later and nothing falling between trades.
Landscape Design and Installation
Full design and installation — beds, specimen planting, sod, screening and the structure that holds a property together year-round.
Masonry and Hardscaping
Paver and bluestone patios, walkways, driveways, retaining walls, outdoor kitchens and fire pits, built on a base that holds.
Yard Drainage Solutions
French drains, dry wells, catch basins and regrading — designed around what is actually under your ground, not a standard detail.
Seasonal Property Maintenance
Spring and fall cleanups, ongoing grounds care, gutter clearing and power washing on a schedule that keeps ahead of problems.
Grading and Excavation
Site grading, excavation and drainage correction. The work nobody sees and every other job depends on.
Property Management
Full oversight for seasonal and second homes — openings, closings, contractor coordination and eyes on the property between visits.
LOCAL CONDITIONS
What East Hampton Properties Actually Deal With
Common on East Hampton properties:
- Mature trees declining after nearby construction
- Bluestone or paver joints opening after one season
- Drainage that cannot legally discharge where it currently does
- Lawn thinning under heavy oak canopy
Call us sooner rather than later if:
- Any tree work near a protected specimen without confirmation
- Regrading inside a wetland setback
- Water moving toward a pond or wetland edge
- Work halted by the Village mid-project
None of this is unusual for East Hampton — it is simply what this part of the East End asks of a property. The difference is whether it gets designed for at the start or repaired afterwards.
Questions We Get From East Hampton Homeowners
How strict is East Hampton Village review really?
Strict enough that we build the review window into the schedule rather than hoping. Materials, colour, coverage, and how the work reads from the street all get looked at. Coming in with a complete, well-drawn submission is the difference between a few weeks and a few months.
Can I remove a tree on my East Hampton property?
Not always, and not without checking. Both the Village and the Town protect trees by size and species, and mature specimens near a construction area often need a protection plan even when they are staying. We confirm status before any equipment arrives.
What are the wetland rules near Hook Pond and Georgica?
There are setbacks that limit regrading, clearing, and where stormwater is allowed to go. Practically, it means drainage has to be designed to hold and infiltrate on your property instead of being pushed toward the water. It is very doable — it just cannot be an afterthought.
Why is the finish standard different here?
Because the neighbouring work sets it. On these properties the eye goes straight to joint consistency, edge lines, and how a wall meets a step. We cut and set to that standard because anything less is visible from the driveway.
Do you coordinate with architects and property managers?
Regularly. On larger East Hampton projects we are one of several trades, and the schedule only works if someone is actually talking to the others. We are comfortable being that contractor.
